Charity of the Year 2009 - Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation

During 2008 our Charity of the Year was the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and in a joint initiative with the Loughborough Echo we raised over £18,000 for which we would like to thank any members who helped us to reach that total.

For 2009 we have a new Charity of the Year which is the Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation which was nominated by a number of Society members. Founded in 1989 by the late Mr David Clarke, the Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation is a registered charity situated on the edge of Charnwood Forest. The Foundation is mainly dedicated to Ivy Shuttlewood, David’s mother, who by marriage became Mrs Arnold Clarke. Her spirit of faith, love and giving to which she dedicated her life still lives on in the wonderful work of this unique, local charity.

The main focus of the Foundation’s work is to ease loneliness and suffering and to offer comfort and support to the elderly and adults of all ages with disabilities, throughout the Leicestershire area. Full details about the foundation can be found at www.shuttlewood-clarke.org/about.html or to see the opportunities available in being a volunteer then visit www.shuttlewood-clarke.org/volunteers.html

If you would like to make a donation to this deserving and hard working charity through Loughborough Building Society then please pop into your local branch or send your donation to Amy Robinson, Loughborough Building Society, 6 High Street, Loughborough LE11 2QB. Many thanks.
