Charity of the Year
The Loughborough continues to support local charities with our staff holding fund raising activities such as dress down days, quiz nights, treasure hunts, cake stalls and our staff volunteering on various projects and helping out at events such as fetes and coffee mornings.
The Loughborough don't currently have a charity of the year
Residents at Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD) in Sileby are looking forward to setting up their own photography club thanks to the year long fund-raising efforts of a local building society.
LCD was chosen as Loughborough Building Society’s Charity of the Year for 2010 and throughout this time staff and members have taken part in a variety of activities including ‘Come Dine With Me’ events, a sponsored walk along Hadrian’s Wall, quizzes, cake sales, ‘dress down’ days and even a tandem sky dive.
Over £5,500 has been raised in total with the final instalment being handed over to Leanne Nicolson, community engagement officer at Leonard Cheshire Disability, by Fiona Wilkinson, branch manager at The Loughborough, who put her best foot forward to complete a sponsored walk along Hadrian’s Wall for the charity.
“The partnership with Loughborough Building Society has made a helpful difference to our work, as we depend upon voluntary donations and fundraising to create new opportunities to improve quality of life for local disabled people,” says Leanne. “The year has been very successful; helping to raise our profile locally through our association with such a well respected organisation and in addition raising much needed funds.
“The money donated by the staff and members of the Loughborough Building Society has been split between our facilities across the East Midlands and put towards valuable projects such as creating a new outdoor BBQ space, outings and trips and of course our new photography club,” she adds.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone involved with Loughborough Building Society for their generous commitment and support.”
Fiona Wilkinson says: “The Loughborough has always aimed to give as much back to the community as possible in the initiatives we support and the charitable donations we make. We hope that our contribution, both in terms of staff time, fundraising and charitable donations, has gone a little way to helping Leonard Cheshire Disability.”
