Loughborough Building Society has unveiled a completely redefined adverse lending proposition, designed to provide brokers with greater flexibility and support when placing clients with historic or ongoing credit challenges.

The new range is structured across four tiers:

 • Standard products – for applicants with limited or no recent adverse credit
 • Near prime – for borrowers with minor credit issues
 • Credit impaired – for those with more significant historic adverse
 • Credit repair – the Society’s highest-ranking adverse product, specifically developed to support applicants with the most recent and challenging credit events.

The new credit matrix outlines how each product tier supports borrowers with a wide spectrum of issues, including defaults, CCJs, IVAs, DMPs, repossessions, and bankruptcy. For example, applicants with defaults registered within the last two years or unsatisfied CCJs may still be eligible under the credit repair product, while those with older, satisfied events can often be placed into lower tiers with higher LTV options.

To complement the launch, The Loughborough has introduced an online adverse tool, helping brokers quickly determine product eligibility at the pre-DIP stage. This ensures faster, more accurate case placement and helps brokers manage customer expectations from the outset.

The proposition is further strengthened by The Loughborough’s recently launched decision engine, which automatically identifies adverse credit issues within an application and cascades outcomes to the appropriate tier. This allows for a more streamlined process while preserving the Society’s hallmark of personalised underwriting.

Ashley Pearson, Head of Intermediaries at Loughborough Building Society, commented:

“We are proud to launch a truly comprehensive adverse lending proposition that reflects the realities of today’s market. Many borrowers have experienced financial challenges in recent years, and our new tiered structure, supported by smart technology, ensures that brokers can place more cases with greater confidence.

By combining our online adverse tool with the intelligence of our decision engine, we’re giving brokers the clarity and speed they need, while offering customers fair, responsible access to mortgage solutions that suit their circumstances.”

The post FSCS protection limit increase to £120,000 appeared first on The Loughborough Building Society.

]]>
From 1 December 2025, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) deposit protection limit will rise to £120,000. This means if your UK-authorised bank, building society, or credit union goes out of business, FSCS can compensate you from the first penny up to £120,000 per eligible person, per provider. Most customers will get their money back within seven days.

For joint accounts the £120,000 limit applies to each account holder.

If you have a temporary high balance, for example, the result of a house sale or receiving a large inheritance. FSCS protects these balances up to six months. The protection limit for qualifying temporary high balances will also increase to £1.4 million.

Alongside the increased deposit protection limit, FSCS is introducing a refreshed FSCS Protected badge. This badge makes it easier for you to identify financial providers who are protected under the Deposit Guarantee Scheme.

The updated badge will start appearing across branches, banking apps, and promotional materials by from the 1 December. Banks, building societies and credit unions have six months to update their disclosure materials until 31 May 2026.

What is FSCS?

FSCS protects customers when financial services firms fail. If a company goes bust and cannot pay claims, FSCS steps in to compensate you.

Set up by Parliament and funded by the financial services industry, FSCS is independent and free to use if you claim directly.

FSCS covers more than just banks, building societies and credit unions. It also protects:

 • Investments
 • Pensions
 • Financial advice
 • Insurance broking
 • Mortgage advice and arranging
 • Funeral plans

Compensation limits vary by product. Visit the FSCS website for more information.

On 29th September, The Loughborough Building Society hosted its second Macmillan Coffee Morning. The event welcomed colleagues from our Loughborough Head Office to enjoy a selection of hot drinks and a variety of yummy treats — both sweet and savoury — all in support of a great cause.

Our branches also joined in the fun, offering cakes for sale. Our Derby branch even had a selection of second-hand books available for customers to purchase.

Macmillan Coffee Mornings are a vital fundraising initiative that help Macmillan Cancer Support provide practical, emotional, and financial assistance to people living with cancer. Every pound raised contributes to services such as specialist nurses, support lines, and community care, ensuring that no one faces cancer alone.

We’re delighted to share that the Society raised a total of £339.00, surpassing our original target of £250.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, baked, and helped organised the coffee morning.

Leicestershire Building Societies Raise Over £1,750 for Rainbows Hospice at Charity Football Match https://www.theloughborough.co.uk/news/leicestershire-building-societies-raise-over-1750-for-rainbows-hospice-at-charity-football-match https://www.theloughborough.co.uk/news/leicestershire-building-societies-raise-over-1750-for-rainbows-hospice-at-charity-football-match#respond Thu, 02 Oct 2025 10:40:55 +0000 https://www.theloughborough.co.uk/?p=24515 A charity football match brought together the five Leicestershire building societies — for a thrilling evening of sport and fundraising in support of Rainbows Hospice

On Wednesday 24th September, a charity football match brought together the five Leicestershire building societies — Loughborough, Melton, Market Harborough, Hinckley & Rugby, and Earl Shilton — for a thrilling evening of sport and fundraising in support of Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

While Melton Building Society claimed victory on the pitch, the true winner of the night was Rainbows Hospice, with an impressive £1,756.50 raised through JustGiving and cash donations. The event highlighted the power of collaboration and community, with strong turnout from both players and supporters.

The evening also featured a raffle, with the main prize being a football signed by Leicester City FC players.

The match was the brainchild of Luke, Senior Telephone BDM for Intermediaries at Loughborough Building Society, whose vision and dedication brought the event to life. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the match, Luke shared:

“The idea for the match came after I volunteered at Rainbows in July, helping sort donations. Hearing how little support they receive from the government and how much they rely on donations really stuck with me — I wanted to do something to help. Thanks to the contacts built up by our Head of Intermediaries, Ashley, we were able to rally teams from other Leicestershire building societies and get everything in place for match day. The support from colleagues was incredible, and it was amazing to see everyone come together for such a good cause.”

With Ashley reaching out to other societies, Luke coordinated the event and kept everyone informed in the lead-up to match day. It quickly became a team effort, with Loughborough colleagues helping to secure the pitch, organise the trophy and signed LCFC football, and coordinate a fantastic range of raffle prizes.

On the night, Millie from our reception team brought Rainbows’ mascot ‘Bow Bear’ to life. Loughborough colleagues also kept track of the scores, monitoring points and goal differences — all contributing to a smooth and enjoyable evening.

Each society fielded at least seven players, all of whom gave up their evening to take part in a competitive and good-spirited match. The home crowd brought plenty of energy, cheering on Team Loughborough and helping make the night a memorable success.

Their efforts were praised by Hannah, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Rainbows Hospice, who expressed deep gratitude for the support and generosity shown:

“That is such an amazing amount to have raised, and we really do appreciate all of your support. Your generosity truly transforms lives — whether it’s providing a space for families to laugh together, creating sensory experiences for children, or being there to guide them through their toughest days, your support ensures that we can continue to be a lifeline for so many.”

Many thanks to:
• The football teams, for their energy and teamwork both in the build-up and on the pitch
• The Loughborough colleagues, who managed logistics, scoring, and behind-the-scenes coordination
• Everyone who came along to cheer and support the teams
• And of course, Bow Bear, who brought smiles to everyone in attendance

The charity football match was a shining example of what can be achieved when communities come together for a good cause. It also reflects Loughborough Building Society’s ongoing commitment to supporting local initiatives and fostering community spirit. By uniting colleagues, neighbouring societies, and supporters for a shared purpose, we continue to champion events that make a meaningful difference — and there’s already talk of hosting another charity football event!

Rainbows Hospice Volunteer Day https://www.theloughborough.co.uk/news/rainbows-hospice-volunteer-day https://www.theloughborough.co.uk/news/rainbows-hospice-volunteer-day#respond Fri, 01 Aug 2025 14:37:28 +0000 https://www.theloughborough.co.uk/news/rainbows-hospice-volunteer-day/ A few colleagues from our Head Office team in Loughborough spent the day volunteering at Rainbows Hospice, supporting their amazing work in the community

On Tuesday 29th July, Ashley, Luke, and Mackenzie from our Head Office, spent a day volunteering at Rainbows Hospice, in Loughborough. The team dedicated their time to supporting the charity’s retail operations—an essential part of Rainbows’ fundraising efforts.

The day began with hands-on tasks in the hospice’s retail sorting area. Volunteers sorted through donated clothing, carefully categorising items as either “Sellable” (in excellent condition) or “Rag” (damaged or marked but still valuable for recycling). Even the rag items contribute to Rainbows’ income, as they are collected and sold for recycling. The team also reviewed donated books, ensuring only those in good condition were resold via the “World of Books” website, while others were responsibly recycled.

In addition to sorting, the team moved numerous cages, bagged items for delivery, and prepared rag collections for recycling teams. Though physically demanding, the work was deeply rewarding, knowing every task directly supported Rainbows’ mission.

Later in the day, the team was given a tour of the hospice’s facilities. Rainbows provides specialist care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, many of whom are receiving end-of-life support. The hospice is designed to help families create lasting memories together, with facilities including a hydrotherapy pool and jacuzzi equipped with hoists, sensory and music rooms, a gym, and ample space for play and relaxation.

One of the most striking insights from the team’s visit was learning that Rainbows must raise approximately £8.5 million annually to continue its vital work—yet only 12% of this comes from government funding. The remainder is generated through fundraising, grants, donations, and income from their 10 retail shops. This makes every volunteer effort, no matter how small, incredibly impactful.

The day was a powerful reminder of the importance of community support and the difference that volunteering can make. Rainbows Hospice continues to be a beacon of hope and care for families across the region, and it was an honour to contribute to their mission.

If you’re inspired by the work Rainbows does, there are many ways to get involved. Whether it’s donating quality items to their shops, volunteering your time, or organising a fundraiser, every contribution helps make a difference. Visit www.rainbows.co.uk to learn more about how you can support their charity.

Save for the Future while supporting Rainbows

In addition to donating and volunteering for Rainbows, people can also support the hospice while saving for their future.

Earlier this year, The Loughborough proudly launched Community Savings Accounts in support of Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. These accounts offer members a way to save for the future while helping Rainbows provide vital care to children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

The Loughborough makes annual donations to the hospice based on the total balances held across all such accounts. The more our community saves, the more Rainbows receives.

With over 8,000 advisers, PMS is one of the UK’s most established and respected mortgage clubs. Through this partnership, PMS members will now be able to access The Loughborough’s full range of residential and buy-to-let products, including lending in retirement, JBSP, family assist schemes, shared ownership, holiday lets, buy-for-university, and more.

As part of its ongoing strategy to enhance intermediary distribution, Loughborough Building Society remains committed to working closely with intermediary partners to deliver flexible, customer-focused solutions that respond to evolving borrowing needs across all stages of the lending lifecycle.

The Society recently launched its new mortgage origination platform, complete with integrated credit decisioning software, to further improve these intermediary relationships. Enhancements include soft credit checks during the Decision in Principle (DIP) stage, helping to protect applicants’ credit scores while allowing them to explore mortgage options. Additionally, the platform features enhanced case-tracking functionality and secure integration with selected solicitor panels.

Ashley Pearson, Head of Intermediaries at Loughborough Building Society, commented:

“Joining the PMS panel is a natural step in extending our intermediary footprint and making our proposition more widely accessible to brokers seeking flexible, considered lending options.

“We’ve worked hard to build a product range and service model that reflects the realities of modern borrowers, and we know that advisers value not just product availability but also lenders who are willing to take a pragmatic, case-by-case approach. This partnership opens new doors for advisers, and ultimately, for the clients they support.”

Claire Cherrington, DA Distribution Director at Sesame Bankhall Group, added:

“As a proactive partner for life, we support our advisers through every stage of their business journey—whether they are looking to start, run, grow, or exit their business. Loughborough Building Society’s comprehensive range of mortgage solutions, from first-time buyers to later life lending, and their commitment to individually underwritten applications without credit scoring, exemplify the kind of flexible, customer-focused approach we value. This addition to PMS Mortgage Club’s panel will enhance the options available to our advisers, enabling them to better serve their clients with tailored solutions across various lending needs.”
