In November, The Loughborough was finalists in two categories in the 2024 Savings Champion Awards for Best Building Society and Best Notice Cash ISA Provider.

The Savings Champion awards are the only awards that focus solely on savings, with these awards celebrating the providers that are driving competition and helping savers earn as much as possible from their cash.

We’re proud to announce that the Society won the award for Best Notice Cash ISA provider.

Many thanks to our dedicated Branch and Savings teams for all their hard work throughout the year.

“I’m extremely proud of our team and approach to consistently reviewing our savings products to ensure they remain both competitive and straightforward in design. To be shortlisted for two categories with so many savings providers and products in the market is a real achievement, and to win best Notice Cash ISA Provider is fantastic! Thank you to The Savings Champion for the recognition.”  Tracy Blake, Head of Branches and Savings at The Loughborough.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists.

To spread some seasonal cheer, our Anstey branch arranged a raffle with donations going towards a local lunch club’s Christmas Meal.

With some people feeling a bit lonely in the local community, especially in the winter months, Anstey resident Elizabeth decided to set up a lunch club so residents can chat to others with a hot meal once a week.

As Elizabeth holds the Lunch Club’s savings account with the Society, she regularly visits our branch and speaks to our team at Anstey.

For some, Christmas is one of the loneliest times of the year, and with the festive season just around the corner, our Branch Manager Katie decided to help Elizabeth and the Lunch Club put together a Christmas meal for their community.

To raise funds for the Christmas meal, Anstey put on a raffle in the branch.

The local Tesco at Beaumont Leys and their community champion kindly donated 2 prizes to the raffle and the Anstey team donated 12 chocolate Reindeers.

With help from our members and the local Anstey community, the branch was able to raise a fantastic £117 pounds.

This donation will not only help the Lunch Club provide a full Christmas meal to its members, but it will also pay for crackers, napkins and small gifts for each member.

With help from the Loughborough, members of the Lunch Club, will be able to enjoy a Christmas meal with others this year.

Loughborough Building Society is delighted to announce it’s been awarded the FairLife Mark for its mortgage and savings products.

The FairLife Mark represents a new fair-trading initiative for the finance industry. It recognises companies that price honestly and trade fairly with their customers. This will ultimately help you choose what you need with confidence, by making products better and easier to understand.  Revenue raised by the charity funds financial education in schools, giving children the knowledge they need to make good financial decisions throughout their lives.

Gary Brebner, CEO Loughborough Building Society says: “We’re proud to work with the FairLife Charity and to have been awarded the FairLife Mark for our mortgage and savings products.  At The Loughborough, we’re committed to fair standards and the provision of products and services which enable our members to reach their financial objectives”.

Stuart Phillips of the FairLife Charity commented “There is a growing public appetite for a fairer society and leading firms are responding. Ethical behaviours are driving consumer purchasing and the FairLife Mark is a simple way for companies to highlight their commitment to fair standards.

The Mark highlights companies that put their customers first – following the spirit of the law not just the letter. We are thrilled to partner with Loughborough Building Society and that they’ll be displaying the FairLife Mark online and in branches.”

Generator Loughborough CIC crowdfunded throughout the month of March to raise funds for the restoration of the Generator Hall in Loughborough Town Centre. (Crowdfunding is where a project or venture is funded by raising money from a large number of people who each contribute a relatively small amount).

They successfully hit their crowdfunding target at the end of the month, raising a massive £27,109 with 356 supporters contributing throughout the month.

These funds will help restore the Generator Hall on Packe Street, Loughborough and create a new arts and culture hub for the town.

Once open, the Generator Hall will host events at a scale currently not possible in town including:

  • Comedy, Dance and Drama Performances
  • Live music
  • Exhibitions
  • Art festivals
  • Seminars
  • Heritage events

31 DAYS TO ‘DOUBLE THE MONEY’

That’s not all, The Architectural Heritage Fund will double the money raised throughout the month, up to a total of £25k, meaning that this Crowdfunder will generate over £50k for the project and the town.

The money will go towards essential work such repairing the roof, adding insulation and soundproofing. It’s hoped that building works will start in 2023, with plans to open the venue in 2024.

Charnwood Borough Council’s Deputy Mayor, Margaret Smidowicz, officially opens Loughborough Building Society’s new branch in Anstey.

After months of hard work, our new branch, located at The Nook in Anstey, north of Leicester, officially opened on Wednesday 20th July 2022.

The grand opening was also attended by, local Councillors Deborah Taylor, David Snartt and Paul Baines, together with a host of local businesses and individuals. Those attending enjoyed a guided tour of the new branch and delicious refreshments courtesy of the Nook Corner Café, which is situated just next door.

Senior Customer Service Adviser Katie, and the other members of the Anstey branch team, also handed out goody bags to those attending to celebrate the opening.

The highlight of the event was the official ribbon cutting, with Charnwood Borough Council’s Deputy Mayor, Margaret Smidowicz, doing the honours. She also welcomed The Loughborough to the community and thanked the Society for staying true to the ideals of the small group of business men who, in 1867, made the decision to provide financial support to the people of Loughborough and District to buy their own homes and save for the future.

The Society’s Head of Branches and Savings, Tracy Blake, said, “It was a lovely afternoon and I’m delighted with the local support we’ve received. People are extremely positive about us joining the Anstey community, especially the fact that they can visit us and speak to a friendly face”.

Our grateful thanks go to all those who supported the opening event.

Katie and our Anstey team look forward to welcoming you to the new branch soon.

Back in June the Society proudly opened a brand-new branch in Anstey, just north of Leicester.

While some Banks and Building Societies are closing branches and shortening opening hours, we’re reaffirming our commitment to having a branch presence on local high streets by opening a new location.

After weeks of refurbishment, the fresh new Loughborough Building Society branch opened to the public on 6th June 2022 with our Head of Branches and Savings Tracy, Anstey’s Senior Customer Service Advisor Katie, and the Anstey team welcoming members to the new location.

Our new branch is located in the former Nationwide building at The Nook in the centre of Anstey and will help ensure that members and residents in the local area get access to cash and other vital services that The Loughborough provides.

Katie and our Anstey team look forward to welcoming you to the new branch soon.
